Poor diet is the leading cause of death globally, responsible for 1 in 5 deaths worldwide, according to the Global Burden of Disease Study (The Lancet, 2019).
Here in the UK, the effects are felt sharply, particularly among children and young people.
Childhood obesity is rising at an alarming rate. Being overweight or obese increases the risk of serious but largely preventable diseases, including type 2 diabetes, cancer, heart disease, liver disease, stroke, and a range of mental health conditions.
In Stoke-on-Trent, a staggering 40.5% of children are overweight or obese by the end of primary school (Year 6), significantly above the national average.
We know that healthy eating advice can often feel confusing, overwhelming or even contradictory. That’s why we’re on a mission to support young people and their families with clear, practical and engaging nutrition education—so they can make confident and positive dietary choices every day.
